The Unseen Hero...

St Paul was a tent maker, 2012, Oil on canvas, 155 x 125 cm

(Top - bottom) St Paul was a tent maker: Study 1, 2 and 3, Oil on board

I've been exploring how the essence of major locations can be emotionally absorbed onto the canvas. During my practice I have been projecting my own emotional recollections of the dramatic events related to the Protestor's tents by St Paul's Cathedral.

Past and present meet in an anti climax captured in a painting. I wanted to contrast the thorough detail of the building and simplicity of the tents. This work is ironically a portrait without being a portrait because the unseen hero is Paul the wandering tent maker who would be more at home with the protestors than in the cathedral.
